Etanercept Enbrel®
A recombinant human tumour necrosis factor receptor–Fc fusion protein used across immune-mediated inflammatory diseases. Inter-individual exposure variability and the need to distinguish drug concentration from immunogenicity make etanercept an established subject of biological-drug monitoring research. Two SHIKARI® assays address complementary free-drug and anti-drug antibody questions for the originator and biosimilars.

Why Etanercept is relevant to biological-drug monitoring research
Etanercept has clinically important target biology, indication-specific dosing and measurable systemic exposure, making drug concentration and immunogenicity relevant research variables. Scientific source ↗ · EMA source ↗
Molecular Target & Structure
Etanercept is a dimeric soluble TNF-receptor-2 Fc fusion protein that binds TNF and reduces TNF-receptor signalling. Source ↗
Approved Indications
EMA-authorised uses include rheumatoid arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis and plaque psoriasis in defined adult and paediatric populations. EMA source ↗
Steady-State Exposure
Because a universal therapeutic trough target is not established, regulator PK data provide a regimen-specific reference:
Regulatory exposure values are regimen- and population-specific and are not therapeutic targets. Values vary with dose, timing, formulation and study population. This page is for RUO product information and does not provide clinical guidance.
Two complementary research assays
Enzyme immunoassay for the quantitative determination of free etanercept in human serum and plasma. Developed for measuring etanercept concentration across the Cmin–Cmax range in trough-level, pharmacokinetic and biosimilar research.
Enzyme immunoassay for the qualitative determination of antibodies to etanercept in human serum and plasma. Designed for immunogenicity screening and longitudinal anti-drug antibody research.
