From Scientific Insight to an International Research Portfolio
Matrix Biotek’s scientific journey began in Ankara in 2002, when Prof. Haluk Ataoglu founded Matriks Biotek following an academic career in clinical microbiology, immunology and monoclonal-antibody research.
In 2008, the team became the first in the world to develop, manufacture and commercialise ELISA kits for biological-drug monitoring. This science-led innovation established the foundation of the SHIKARI® portfolio and helped create a new international research market.
Since 2008, SHIKARI® has carried a simple idea at the heart of our work: trace and catch what matters in biological-drug monitoring research. From our first ELISA kits to today’s broader portfolio of drug-level, anti-drug antibody and neutralising-antibody assays, that idea has remained constant—develop focused research tools around the questions laboratories and researchers need to investigate.
Matrix Biotek S.L. was established in Barcelona in 2025, strengthening the company’s European commercial presence, collaborative R&D&I and access to international research networks while maintaining established manufacturing and product-development capabilities in Ankara.

Based in Barcelona’s 22@ innovation district, Matrix Biotek S.L. is Matrix Biotek’s European headquarters and provides a direct European base for the SHIKARI® portfolio. This presence brings the company closer to researchers, laboratories, distribution partners and life-science organisations across the region. From Barcelona, Matrix Biotek coordinates European commercial development, supports customers and partners, and builds scientific and commercial collaborations.
Barcelona extends the scientific heritage behind SHIKARI® into a European setting connected to research, biotechnology and international collaboration. Working directly with the established product-development, manufacturing, quality-assurance and fulfilment capabilities in Ankara, the headquarters combines manufacturer-direct supply of SHIKARI® research-use assays with responsive European support, collaborative R&D&I and long-term scientific partnerships.
A Message from the Founder & CEO
Matrix Biotek began with a scientific question and a conviction that research needs should be met with practical, reliable tools. My academic work in clinical microbiology, immunology and monoclonal antibodies led me to establish Matriks Biotek in 2002 and to build a company in which scientific development remains central.
In 2008, our team became the first in the world to develop, manufacture and commercialise ELISA kits for biological-drug monitoring. What began as a science-led innovation grew through the interest and trust of laboratories, researchers and partners around the world. Their needs helped shape the expanding SHIKARI® portfolio.
Throughout this journey, we have continued to reinvest in research and development. Every achievement reflects the knowledge, dedication and contribution of our team, as well as the scientific community with which we work.
Today, Barcelona and Ankara represent a new chapter in the same story: connecting European collaboration and international market development with our established scientific and manufacturing capabilities. We remain committed to listening to researchers, developing meaningful solutions and advancing biological-drug monitoring research.
Prof. Haluk Ataoglu
MD, PhD · FOUNDER & CEO
Scientific Leadership with an Entrepreneurial Vision
Prof. Haluk Ataoglu, MD, PhD in Clinical Microbiology, built his career at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine before founding Matriks Biotek in 2002. His work in medical biotechnology, immunology, monoclonal-antibody production and ELISA assay development provided the scientific foundation for the SHIKARI® biological-drug monitoring portfolio.
His wider research interests include the physiology and immunology of yeast fungi, particularly Candida albicans, fungal cell-wall antigens, host–pathogen interactions, and immune and inflammatory responses to infection. This work also informs the company’s continuing interest in research tools for invasive fungal infections.
As Founder and CEO of Matrix Biotek S.L. and Matriks Biotek, he leads the company’s scientific, R&D&I and international commercial direction, connecting established capabilities in Ankara with the company’s European development in Barcelona.
